Our Programs

Emotional regulation is the ability to effectively manage and respond to our emotions in a healthy way. It requires us to firstly recognise and understand our emotions, control impulsive reactions, and choose appropriate ways to express and manage feelings. These skills are important to sustain healthy relationships.

Emotional regulation can be especially difficult for individuals with:

  • ASD: Many people with ASD may find it challenging identifying and understanding their emotions, as well as interpreting the emotions of others.

  • ADHD: Many individuals with ADHD experience impulsivity, hyperactivity and trouble maintaining attention, which can affect their ability to manage their emotions. Thereby, creating intense emotions, which are difficult to control.

  • Cognitive Impairments: Some people may struggle understanding their emotions as well as those of others. Trouble with impulse control and problem solving can impact the ability to regulate emotions.

Emotional Regulation

Social Groups
(Teens, 18+)

There are several documented benefits associated with running social groups for people with ASD, ADHD and cognitive impairments including:

  1. Social Connections: Provides support from others with similar experiences and challenges. Can decrease feelings of isolation and offer a sense of belonging.

  2. Social Skills Development: Provide the opportunity to practice and improve social skills in a positive, structured, and supportive environment. Such as learning social cues, turn taking, listening, co-operation and conversation skills.

  3. Improves Social Confidence: Participation can increase self-esteem and confidence in social situations. This can lead to enhanced confidence navigating unfamiliar social settings.

  4. Increased Communication Skills: Involvement in group activities and discussions encourages both verbal and non-verbal communication. Thereby improving language development and the ability to effectively express thoughts.

  5. Opportunities for Shared Interests: Can encourage friendships and develop common ground for social interaction.

  6. Structured Socialisation: Engaging in structured activities and routines creates reassurance. Predictable routines decrease anxiety, foster a sense of stability and decrease impulsivity during social situations.

  7. Learning from Peers: Individuals can learn from and observe their peers’ social behaviours and responses, leading to the acquisition of new social skills and a better understanding of social norms.

Overall, social groups offer a supportive and inclusive environment whereby individuals can blossom and thrive socially, encouraging meaningful relationships and improving their quality of life.

Virtual Reality (VR)

Virtual reality therapy requires the use of headsets and motion sensors to create virtually realistic environments. Specifically, it creates interactive and immersive scenarios designed to meet the needs and abilities of individuals with ASD., through a safe and controlled environment. Research studies have demonstrated its effectiveness in improving cognitive and social abilities, enhancing communication skills, and managing sensory overload.

Through the customisation of virtual scenarios, specific therapy goals and challenges can be addressed. Overall, it is a complementary approach to therapy, which becomes part of a comprehensive treatment plan. Through the combination of various interventions, individuals with ASD can benefit from a holistic treatment approach targeting different aspects of their development.

Barefoot Yoga

Barefoot yoga involves practising yoga without wearing shoes or socks. It provides a more direct connection between the feet and the ground, enhancing balance, stability, and bodily awareness.

It can further help with emotional regulation as barefoot yoga encourages mindfulness and grounding techniques, which assist with the management of emotions. This physical movement, combined with mindful breathing promotes a state of calmness thereby improving emotional regulation.
